Mini Husky: Breed overview

The Minnie Husky is a miniaturized version of the Siberian Husky. This small Husky is geared more as a companion dog rather than a working dog that would haul sleds in the snow.

Mini Huskys are bred to be small from the runts of the litter and not from dwarf Huskies. A dwarf Husky has an abnormal bone and body shape, which the Miniature Huskey does not possess.

What are Mini Huskies called?

what is the name of a Miniature Husky
What is a Miniature Husky?

Some may wonder what is a Mini Husky called because of their size difference from the standard Siberian Husky. Are they different from a teacup or micro Husky, or are they just the same?

The Miniature Husky breed is just a smaller version of the Standard Siberian Husky. The terms Teacup or Micro Husky are used interchangeably with miniature Husky. They are considered more as companion dogs because of their size, but technically, they are designated as working dogs.

Also, the Mini Husky should not be confused with the similarly looking Alaskan Klee Kai. They have a height and weight that is almost similar with the Mini Husky being slightly smaller. Their coat colors are also quite alike and both can have eye colors of blue, brown, or a combination of both.

What sets them apart is that the Alaskan Klee Kai is more suspicious of strangers and prefers being by his owner’s side, while the Miniature Husky is similar to the Standard Husky which is boisterous, friendly, and independent.

The Alaskan Klee Kai is also a recognized breed, whereas, the Mini Husky, because of his size, is not considered a standard of the Siberian Husky.

Are Mini Huskies real?

Yes, Mini Huskies are real and they are genetically similar to the Standard Siberian Husky. The Husky Mini only differs in their size. His other physical attributes, temperament, and personality are entirely the same as his larger cousin.

While Mini Huskies are not recognized as a separate breed from the Siberian Husky, their size is not accepted by major dog associations.

Do Mini Huskies exist?

Miniature Husky how big do they get
Do Miniature Huskies exist?

Yes, Husky Miniature does exist, and they were specifically created by a breeder named Bree Normandin in the early 1990s to produce pint-sized Huskies. She did this by selectively mating the smaller Huskies in a standard-sized litter over several generations to create a miniature version of the Husky.

As the smaller Huskies were mated with other runts of a different litter for a number of generations, the resulting offspring eventually became considerably uniform in their small size to merit a new Husky size.

Miniature Huskies are, on average, 7 inches shorter and 20 pounds lighter than a standard-sized Siberian Husky.

Are there Miniature Huskies?

Husky enthusiasts may sometimes wonder, is there such a thing as a Miniature Husky that is healthy due to his small size, or are there Mini huskies breeders you can find online that is reputable?

Since they are a fairly new variation of the Siberian Husky, it may be challenging to find a reputable breeder that produces healthy Mini Husky dog.

Luckily, a mother Husky can produce a litter of up to 11 puppies which can meet the growing demand for these cuties.

Overall, Miniature Huskies are as healthy as their larger counterpart and can be expected to live for as long as 12 to 15 years.

What is a Mini Husky?

What is a Miniature Siberian Husky and how do they differ from the Standard Siberian Husky? Mini Siberian Huskies are Siberian Huskies that have been bred to be smaller. They are as purebred as the standard medium-sized Husky, and as discussed above, the only difference is in their size.

Male mini Huskies can reach a height of 14 to 17 inches upon maturity, while females can reach a height of 12 to 16 inches. The proportion of their legs in relation to the body is similar to that of the standard Husky, and being smaller does not necessarily mean they are less stout or have shorter bodies.

It’s important to note that Siberian Huskies that are small due to the presence of the dwarf gene cannot be considered Mini Husky. Huskies with dwarfism have disproportionate limbs with larger heads, and most of them have shorter lifespans and face health problems when they mature.

What breeds make a Mini Husky?

If the Miniature Husky dog is not recognized as a standard size of the Husky, what breed is a Miniature Husky? The Miniature Husky Siberian is the same breed as the Siberian Husky and they share the same history and genetics.

They belong to the Spitz family of dogs typified by a thick, double coat, erect ears, and a wolf-like resemblance.

Siberian Huskies originated from northeast Asia and were developed by the Chukchi people of Siberia.

They are believed to have descended from the Taimyr wolf of north Asia and have a close genetic relationship with the Alaskan Malamute and Alaskan Husky.

Miniature Husky vs regular Husky

The main difference between Miniature Husky and Regular Husky is that Miniature Husky is smaller, standing an average of 12 to 17 inches while regular Husky is taller, standing about 20 to 24 inches.

Another main difference between the two is that the Miniature Husky was developed primarily as a companion dog while the Regular Husky was developed as a working dog and as a companion dog

Are Mini Husky recognized by the AKC?

Except for the size, the Miniature Husky basically has the same physical traits as the regular Husky so does it mean then that this smaller version of the Husky is recognized as AKC Miniature Siberian Husky?

The answer is no, Mini Husky are not recognized by the AKC. While it is true that the AKC recognizes the Miniature Husky as a breed, it does not grant these Miniature Husky breeds full status, hence, they cannot be called Miniature Husky AKC-recognized.

So, why is it that the AKC does not grant full status to Mini Husky so it can be called a Miniature Siberian Husky AKC?

This is because the AKC has a set of standards in terms of the height, weight, and size of the Siberian Husky. And for the AKC, the Mini Husky does not meet all these requirements to be given a full AKC status.

In short, the AKC looks at the Miniature Husky as the small version of a Husky that failed to conform to the breed standard, hence, no full status is given.

The Miniature Husky is relatively a newbie, developed in the 1990s by Bree Normandin. That said, the Miniature Siberian Husky Club of America stated on its website that their application in two major dog registries is still pending.

They advised breeders to be careful in the breeding process by performing health tests in order to conform to the breed standards and for their application to get approved.

Miniature siberian Husky physical appearance

Have you already seen a little Husky dog? If not, we are pretty sure you are asking, “what does a Miniature Husky look like?”

Well, they have the same physical attributes as a Regular Siberian Husky except that they are smaller. Like the original counterpart, a Miniature Huskly also has a wolf-like appearance with erect ears and muzzles that are broad. They fall under the small dog breed category, with an average height of 12 to 16 inches and weighing about 15 to 35 pounds.

The Miniature Siberian Husky also wears a thick double coat that can come in different colors. It is not unusual to see a little Husky dog wears an all-white coat or a dual-colored coat like a black and white thick coat

Same as the Regular Husky, this little one also has those piercing blue eyes that Huskies are known for.

Mini Husky blue eyes

Minature Husky
Miniature Husky blue eyes

The reason why a blue eyed Mini Husky has those strikingly attractive blue eyes is because of the mutation of  the ALX4 gene.

This gene present in a Mini Husky with blue eyes causes a decreased production of pigments in the eyes. This lack of pigment is the one causing the Mini Husky dogs’ eyes to appear blue.

This does not mean though that there is the presence of a blue pigment in a Miniature blue eyed Husky. In fact, there is no such thing as a blue pigment; instead, it is the way light enters the lens of the eyes and then exits the Miniature Husky with blue eyes that creates the appearance of blue eyes.

The eye color of Miniature Siberian Husky with blue eyes varies with some Miniature Siberian Huskies with blue eyes having a light blue eye color while some have a very rich blue eye color.

Take note though that it is possible for a Miniature Siberian Husky with blue eyes puppy to change to another eye color at about 5 weeks of age.

Fluffy Mini Husky

It is a misconception that a Miniature Fluffy Husky is a different breed from a Siberian Husky Mini. A Mini Husky, with his medium-length and double-coated coat, plus, his signature sickle and fluffy tails certainly look soft and wooly.

Same as the Regular Husky, it is possible that some Siberian Husky Mini will have fluffier and longer coats than the others, almost comparable to the thick and fluffy coat of a Collie and they are called the Miniature Fluffy Husky.

Miniature Husky temperament

Miniature Husky dogs may look intimidating but they are gentle souls who love and adore human companionship. This dog is a thinker and at the same time, the Miniature Siberian Husky temperament is on the explorative and adventurous side. Therefore, he has the tendency to run away from home if he senses something interesting outside.

This intelligence may pose some problems because it causes them to be headstrong and independent-minded, thus, early training is an absolute must to curb a Mini Husky temperament domineering behavior.

The Miniature Husky may be stubborn and does not make an effort to please his humans, but a Mini Husky temperament is generally friendly to everyone, even to house guests and other dogs, making him a great canine companion.

Miniature Husky personality

This little Husky breed is full of life and vigor. He loves to play with adults and young children. He is outgoing and prefers to be tagged along in family activities.

He craves human companionship to the extent that getting separated from his humans may spell ‘disaster’, in the sense that he may get destructive and may howl endlessly as a way to get his much-deserved attention.

Various Miniature Husky colors and coat types

Miniature Siberian Huskies are double-coated consisting of a dense and wavy undercoat, and straight, thicker, and longer guard hairs. This coat protects their body from extremely cold temperatures, and also during the summer when it helps reflect heat away from the body.

Just like their larger cousins, the Miniature Husky coat colors come in black and white, gray and white, copper red and white, gray, black, sable, agouti, and white. They often have patterns of white fur on the face, legs, paws, and tail. The coat color can be solid-colored or multi-shaded, and markings can be symmetrical or asymmetrical.

Mini White Husky

Among the colors of the Mini Husky, the All White Miniature Husky is the least common. There is not a single marking of any color that can be found in the coat of an All White Mini Husky, and the only pigmentation you can see in a Mini Husky white is the black of their noses, paws, and the rims of their eyes.

Sometimes a White Mini Husky, as well as other Huskies, will display a “winter nose” wherein the center of the nose would turn pinkish during the colder months.

Miniature White Husky is quite rare. Aside from their size, producing a Mini White Siberian Husky would require two mini Husky parents to carry a recessive gene for the all white coat color.

The White Mini Husky should not be confused with an albino Husky or the Isabella Husky. Huskies with albinism do not have any pigmentation at all and would display pinkish skin around the eyes and nose. They are also prone to skin cancer and deafness.

Isabella Huskies, on the other hand, have a yellowish tinge on their coat and liver-colored noses.

Mini White Husky puppy is born completely white with black noses and blue eyes, but the eye color can change into brown in some when they reach 2 months old.

Mini White Husky with blue eyes are pretty common, but they can also have brown or bi-colored eyes. The blue eyes in a mature White Miniature Husky can range from light to dark blue with some having a tinge of green or gray.

Miniature Siberian Husky White shares the same physical characteristics as the other mini Huskies. The coat of the Miniature White Siberian Husky adapts well to a cold climate due to its double layer of fur, and the black rims around the eyes of a White Miniature Siberian Husky help to absorb sunlight and deflect the glare of the snow during daytime.

This is important because Huskies are known to work in snow and without the black rims around their eyes, it would obstruct their ability to see.

Miniature Husky brown

Brown Miniature Husky exhibits a coat color that is predominantly brown that ranges from light brown to chocolate. A Mini Husky brown can be all-brown but sometimes have white spotting on the chest, legs, or paws. An all-brown, or for that matter, an all-white or all-black Mini Husky is considered rare.

Brown Mini Husky typically has brown eyes, but eye color can also range from hazel to blue, with some exhibiting different colored eyes known as heterochromia.

Red Mini Husky

Mini Red Husky possess a red color that ranges from light red to copper red. Red Miniature Husky can be solid-colored or come in a red and white, or red and black variety. Just like his black and white or gray and white cousins, Miniature Husky Red is a purebred Miniature Husky.

Miniature Red Husky typically have a white fur on their underbelly, and their noses and paws are liver-colored. Eye color can be brown, blue, or bi-colored.

The Red Mini Husky, as with all Mini Huskies, has three different coat lengths. Typically, they have medium-length guard hairs, but they can also have woolly or short-haired coats.

Woolly-haired Huskies have long and fluffy guard hairs that collect more water and are considered undesirable, while Miniature Short Haired Husky has a thinner and less plush coat.

Black Mini Husky

Mini Black Husky can either be all-black or have a predominantly black coat with some white spotting on the chest, legs, paws, and face.

An all-black mini Husky did not inherit the piebald gene from either parent and would not exhibit any white markings. Mini black Husky with the piebald gene will have varying degrees of white spotting on the body depending on whether they inherited the piebald gene from one parent or both.

Some only have white spotting on their toes while some would have irregular spotting on the face and legs as well.

How big do Miniature Huskies get?

Since the Mini Huskies breed has been bred down to a smaller size from runts, many may wonder how big do Miniature Siberian Husky get and is it possible for them to reach the small size of other teacup breeds like the Poodle or Pomeranian?

The Miniature Husky only reaches half the size of a standard Siberian Husky and they cannot be bred any smaller than 13 inches since it is not in their genetic makeup to begin with. So, in reality, there really is no such thing as a teacup Husky, but many would use the terms mini or teacup interchangeably

Miniature Husky size and height

Unlike the standard Siberian Husky which is considered a medium-sized dog, the Mini Siberian Husky size is that of a small breed dog.

A Miniature Husky size comparison with its larger cousin shows that a Miniature Siberian Husky size is only 13 to 17 inches tall as compared with the 20 to 23.5 inches height of the standard Husky. This makes the tallest of the Mini Husky size even smaller than the shortest of the regular Husky.

Even though the Mini Husky stays small into adulthood, they still grow at the same rate as the standard Husky.

Miniature Husky full grown size is reached by their first birthday, but Siberian Husky Miniature size may continue to fill out their chest until Mini Husky adults reach 15 months old.

One way to know if the Miniature Siberian Husky full grown size has not yet been reached is to observe their paws. If the paws look oversized in relation to their body, then the Mini Husky adult is still growing and developing his height.

Unsurprisingly, a male full size Mini Husky is slightly taller than a female Mini Husky full size. Also, an adult Miniature Husky should have legs that are proportional to their body. Otherwise, if a Mini Husky full grown size appears stunted, then the breeder may have crossed a Husky with dwarfism with another Husky.

When planning to spay or neuter, make sure that the Miniature Husky full size has been reached, which is around 15 to 18 months old. If done early, the Miniature Siberian Husky full size may be taller since the procedure increases the time for the bones to grow. It’s important to note that increased growth in the bones could lead to misalignment in the joints.

Miniature Husky weight

How much does a Miniature Husky weigh when they reach maturity? The male Mini Husky weight range between 25 and 35 lb Husky, while the female ranges from a 20 to 30 pound Husky.

Male Miniature Husky adult are much heavier due to their taller stature, which can hold more mass in their bodies. An adult Miniature Siberian Husky will reach his peak height before his maximum weight, which could take another 3 to 6 months when they are filling out their chests.

For the most part, Mini Siberian Husky weight is fairly easy to maintain since they do not have a tendency to overeat unlike other breeds and they are naturally active.

Normally, if they feel full, they would stop eating. This is one of the peculiar traits of the Husky. But, of course, it is best to always monitor your Miniature Siberian Husky weight. They also have a tendency to put on more weight much quicker if they do not exercise regularly.

Miniature Husky full grown

During the development of a Mini Husky puppy into a fully grown Miniature Husky, you may notice them having growth spurts and plateaus in their height. This is usually evident during their third month.

Not all of them will grow and develop at the same pace, with some of them developing much slower before they become Mini Husky fully grown.

It is at this time that they should be taught how to get used to being on a leash (many Mini Husky prefer using a retractable dog leash) before they become a full grown Mini Husky. A Mini Husky breed full grown is known to be a great escape artist that likes to explore his surroundings and even scale fences.

If you have a Mini Husky and would still like to give him the ability to freely roam your backyard, we highly recommend getting a wireless dog fence because it helps contain your canine friends within your backyard.

You’ll no longer need to worry about your furry friends escaping your backyard and there are no fences to scale.

Also, what’s great about the invisible doggy fence is that it is flexible and adaptable to any and all types of terrains including mountainous, hilly, and flat grassy terrains. So you can now enjoy your beautiful mountain view while also keeping your pups safe.

At around 6 months old, a Mini Husky may start to have that clumsy and lanky appearance. This is usually the time when they are in their awkward stage before they become Miniature Siberian Husky full grown.

They are more active and playful, and it is important to keep a close eye on them to avoid any injuries that could affect their bone development.

It is also at this time that you can establish a routine in their everyday life, like potty breaks or exercise time. This way, they are becoming more disciplined before they reach being a Mini Siberian Husky full grown.

At 8 months old, they would have closely reached their Mini Husky dog full grown height. In fact, some of them may have achieved their Miniature Husky grown full height since they are a small breed. Larger breeds have bigger bones and joints that need more time to develop. It is at this age when they are starting to get anxious when their owner is not around, so it is important to keep them company to avoid separation anxiety.

By the time a Mini Husky full grown reaches 12 to 15 months, he may have already filled out most of his body. But a full grown Miniature Husky may still continue to increase in weight until they are 2 years old.

A full grown miniature Siberian Husky must have the same proportion as the standard Husky and an adult Mini Husky should not appear stunted in growth even if they are small.

We highly recommend that you have your Siberian Husky Miniature full grown checked by a veterinarian to ensure that they have grown adequately, but as long as they are given the right nutrition as they grow into a Miniature Siberian Husky adult, there should be no problem.

Mini teacup Husky

Teacup Miniature Siberian Husky or Teacup Mini Husky are terms often used interchangeably with Mini Siberian Husky. Some breeders would use the word “teacup” to refer to a Mini Husky, but this is just a marketing ploy.

Toy dog breeds that are bred to be of the “teacup” size typically weigh 5 pounds or less when fully grown. Mini Siberian Husky can only go as low as 20 pounds for a full grown female, so technically, they are not Mini Husky Teacup. It is just not genetically possible to breed a Miniature teacup Husky therefore teacup Miniature Husky do not really exist.

Mini toy Husky

A Toy Mini Husky or a Toy Miniature Siberian Husky are terms used to also refer to the Mini Siberian Husky. A Mini Husky is sometimes called a Mini Husky Toy because they share almost the same height with some breeds in the toy group of dogs, like the Toy Poodle or the Miniature Pinscher.

A toy breed ranges in height from 7 to 15 inches, while a Mini Husky or a toy size Mini Husky height is between 13 and 17 inches. This falls roughly in the same height range as other toy dogs, thus, Mini Huskies are also referred to as a Miniature toy Husky.

Just like most toy dogs originated from breeding from runts, Mini Toy Husky pups are also bred from the runts of the litter. It took Bree Normandin, the originator of the Mini Husky, several generations of breeding runts to come up with the uniformly sized Husky Mini toy.

Micro Husky full grown

A Micro Husky full grown is yet another term for the Mini Siberian Husky. Some would call them midget Husky because they are half the size of a standard Siberian Husky.

It is also possible for a dwarf Siberian Husky to be called midget Husky, but they should not be mistaken as a Mini Siberian Husky because a dwarf Husky would have disproportionate limbs and would often have health issues when they mature.

Mini Siberian Husky, on the other hand, was bred from runts for several generations. The Mini Husky is just as healthy as the standard-sized Husky and is just a mini carbon copy of their larger cousins.

Are Mini Huskies good pets?

Yes, Mini Huskies are good pets and they are just adorable canine companions that are ideal for any family. They are sociable dogs that love getting attention from their family and thus thrive when their family members are around.

They are affectionate and playful making them ideal playmates for children, whether small or older. Of course, adult supervision is always recommended when smaller children are playing with your Mini Husky to avoid any accidents due to rough playing.

Miniature Huskies can also get along well with other pets, especially ones they grew up with. That’s because they are pack animals so they enjoy the company of other dogs. However, Mini Huskies do have a high prey drive that would not think twice about chasing smaller animals, like cats or rabbits.

As pack animals, Huskies have also developed over the centuries, a way of communicating with their owners by way of vocalizing through whining, screaming, or howling as a means of survival.

CHECK OUT: Do Dogs Get Tired Of Barking?

This is the reason why Huskies are so loved  because they seem to have the ability to “talk” back to their owners. A Mini Husky talking is one of the adorable habits they possess.

Although they are talkative in a way, they hardly ever bark. The Mini Husky is not an aggressive dog and would not make great guard dog because of his friendly and trusting nature.

Mini Huskey training

Huski Mini is a smart breed with a stubborn attitude. They can easily dominate you if you don’t train them early on. Letting them get away with minor infractions will embolden them to continue with their mischievous behaviors.

Mini Huskies should start training as early as 7 to 8 weeks old. The ideal choice is to have a professional train them which is followed by consistent follow-ups at home.

Their primary training should include:

Potty training

Housebreaking a dog is the most basic and most important first step in training. An owner should be calm and patient with his Mini Husky puppy and never scold them when they accidentally soil the floor.

The first thing to do is to establish a designated spot where they can do their business and place them in that area at a particular time of the day, such as, right after eating or after they woke up.

You’ll want to praise them right after for doing a good job. Thereafter, you can remove them from the area to let them know that it is only used for doing their business.

Leash or harness walking

Historically, Huskies are utilized as sled dogs and this trait is carried on to the present day. They have the tendency to lead you and pull on the leash as you take them for walks.

This is why some owners prefer using a harness that would ease the pressure on their necks.

Start leash training your puppy by letting them get used to the collar. Afterward, attach the leash to the collar and take them out for a walk.

When they start to take control, it is best that you stop the walk and root your feet until they calm down. Once they settle, reward them accordingly.

Basic commands such as sit, come, stay, and down

Teaching a Mini Husky basic commands provides them with mental stimulation and improvement in their behavior. Just like any other dog, using positive reinforcements or reward-based training is the best tool for teaching them new tricks.

Most Mini Huskies, however, are not motivated by food treats. Instead, you can reward them with some petting or playtime with their favorite toy to keep them motivated.

Socialization

Introducing a Mini Husky puppy to various pets, people, and other sights and sounds early will keep him from getting overwhelmed and uneasy with strangers when they mature. Socialization lets them react to the world around them in a healthy way.

Small Husky Breed exercise requirement

Adult Mini Husky breeds need at least an hour of exercise daily. Just like the standard Husky, the Mini Husky is a highly active dog breed that loves to run around and play to burn off his excess energy.

As puppies, the amount of exercise they need is typically calculated by multiplying their age in months by 5 minutes. So, for example, a 4-month-old Mini Husky should have a total ideal playing time of 20 minutes per day.

Puppy exercises should be limited to light walking and playing to avoid damaging their developing bones and joints. It is also better if that 20 minutes is split into 2 sessions per day for a 4 month old.

If you have a puppy that is very active, it’s a good idea to let him roam freely outside in your backyard. If you’re annoyed by the constant opening and closing of the door for your pup every time he needs to head outside or come back into the house, an electronic dog door would do the trick.

With an automatic doggy door, your pup can now head outside to your backyard on his own, catch some sun, enjoy the fresh air, and walk, run, or play at his own pace. Best of all, it is programmable and you can customize access hours. This way, your four-legged friends can play outside during the day while staying safe indoors at night.

As they mature, exercise can be increased gradually. For adults, aside from physical activities, mental exercise such as a challenging game is also beneficial to build confidence and reduce their boredom.

Aside from their daily walks, a few good physical and mental exercises you can do with your Mini Husky are playing hide-and-seek, frisbee throwing, an agility game like weaving in and out of cones or running through a portable chute tunnel.

DON’T MISS: If you’re looking for a durable and fun toy for your Husky, check out Best Indestructible Dog Toys where we share top picks and reviews your K9 friends will love!

For senior Mini Huskies, reduce the amount of time you go out for walks, and refrain from taking them for a run. Although they may tire out much more quickly, they still need a little exercise every day to keep them physically and mentally stimulated.

Mini Huskies grooming and cleaning

The Mini Husky dog breed is a relatively low-maintenance dog that does not need a lot of grooming aside from daily hair brushing to remove loose hairs. When brushing your Mini Huskies’ coat, it’s best to use either a slicker brush or a Furminator de-shedding tool. This will help to control the shedding and get rid of loose hair.

Fortunately, their fur doesn’t require clipping as it naturally sheds and re-grows seasonally.

Regardless, if you’re annoyed by the tons of fur laying around your home such as on the carpet, sofa, furniture, and on upholsteries, a great solution is to invest in a powerful vacuum cleaner.

With my two furry family members, we use the Miele vacuum cleaner because it is not only powerful, but also durable, quiet, and can seamlessly transition between hardwood floors and carpet.

Best of all, it features several suction power settings and the job of getting rid of all that fur is completed without scaring my two pups away.

They also do not need a lot of bathing because they clean themselves like cats and their fur doesn’t produce excess oil that would easily trap dirt and grime.

Brushing

Mini Huskies, although smaller than standard Huskies, still shed a lot throughout the year especially during the fall and spring when they blow out their undercoat. it’s best to use a wide-toothed comb first to untangle the matting and follow with a paddle brush or FURminator to smooth it out and distribute the natural oils.

Their fur should never be clipped or shaved since their coat is a natural regulator of heat.

Bathing

Mini Huskies should be bathed only when their coat gets too dirty that it is starting to mat. They typically don’t have an odor and they often lick and clean their coats to keep themselves tidy. When bathing a Mini Husky, it’s best to first brush the coat to remove any loose hairs.

When bathing your pooch, be sure to use a dog shampoo that contains natural ingredients and is free of sulfate, preservative, and chemical. After shampooing, make sure to rinse the coat thoroughly to remove any excess soapsuds.

Teeth Brushing

When cleaning Mini Husky’s teeth, be sure to use an enzymatic dog toothpaste for dogs instead of human toothpaste. The enzymatic formula in the doggy toothpaste helps to reduce the buildup of tartar and plaque and improves their overall breath.

 Nail trimming

When it comes to your Mini Huskies’ nails, it’s best to trim them before they grow too long. If you start to hear their nails tap against the hardwood floor whenever they’re walking, then it is time for a nail trim.

For a more pleasant experience when trimming their nails, try using a dog nail grinder which features whisper-quiet motors and a precision diamond drum bit grinder. Some owners report that their fur babies fall asleep when getting their nails trimmed by a dog nail grinder.

Are Mini Huskies hypoallergenic?

Since they are smaller than the standard Husky, some may wonder if the Miniature Husky hypoallergenic. Although no dog breed is really 100% hypoallergenic, a Miniature Husky sheds a lot throughout the year making them highly non-hypoallergenic.

Loose hairs are not really the cause of triggering an allergic reaction in some people. It is the dander and dried saliva that sticks to the hair that is the culprit

Common symptoms in people with canine allergy are stuffy noses, inflamed eyes, breathing difficulties, asthma attacks, and skin rashes.

If you or a family member is prone to canine allergies, then adopting a Mini Siberian Husky is not a good idea.

However, if you’re adamant about getting one, then it is a good idea to place several air purifiers with HEPA filters throughout your home. The HEPA filter will help to eliminate dust, dander, fur, dust mites, germs, and odor from the air.

Do Mini Huskies shed?

Do Miniature Huskies shed a lot throughout the year? Yes, a Mini Husky will shed his soft undercoat the entire year, and more so during the fall and spring months when he blows his coat to adapt to the changing temperatures.

Also, keep in mind that a Miniature Husky shedding tends to be heavier when a Husky lives in a warmer climate.

To control Mini Husky shedding, they should be brushed every day (as discuss above) to reduce the number of loose hairs around the house.

A non-shedding Mini Husky doesn’t really exist, but if your mind is really set to adopt a Mini Husky and you are an allergy sufferer, another option is to adopt a mixed Husky that doesn’t shed that much.

DID YOU KNOW: Did you know that Yorkie Husky Mix can be hypoallergenic if he takes after his Yorkie parent? Check out Yorkie Husky Mix (Complete Guide) to learn more about this mixed Husky breed.

One example of mixed Mini Huskies that don’t shed much is the Huskapoo or Huskadoodle – a Toy Poodle and Mini Husky mix. This mixed breed tends to shed less because of the Poodle’s hypoallergenic coat.

Another option is the Goberian, or the Golden Retriever and Husky Mix. Golden Retrievers are moderate shedders than the Husky, so the Goberian would need less coat maintenance.

Mini Husky breed food and diet

Depending on their age, weight, and activity levels, an adult dog breed Mini Husky should be fed 1 to 2 cups of food daily that is split into two meals.

Choose a high-quality kibble with the proper balance of proteins, fats, and minerals. Some would supplement their dry food with fish, beef, lamb or chicken, and also animal organs, such as the liver or the heart that contain omega fatty acids essential for the maintenance of their muscles, nerves, and tissues.

Miniature Husky health problems

Generally, Mini Huskies are a pretty healthy breed despite being bred from runts. However, just like the standard Husky, a dog Mini Husky is prone to certain health issues that other dog breeds are also at risk for.

If you would like to find out what health issues your Mini Husky may be most susceptible to, it is a good idea to perform a genetic testing on your K9 friend. You can use an at-home dog DNA test to detect any health issues as well as the accuracy of the breed.

For now, it’s important to know that Mini Husky may be prone to the following health issues:

1. Hip Dysplasia

A skeletal condition, hip dysplasia can develop from a young age wherein the hip joints are deformed causing the loosening of the ball and socket of the joints.

Signs of the disease include weakness and pain in the legs, limping, difficulty jumping or standing, lameness, and cracking sounds from the joints.

Unfortunately, there is currently no cure for the disease except through proper weight management and the use of oral joint supplements. Surgery may be recommended for severe cases.

2. Hypothyroidism

A condition wherein the body cannot produce enough thyroid hormones causing lower metabolism.

Symptoms include hair loss, dry skin and coat, weight gain, lethargy, and cold intolerance.

Mini Huskies with this condition are treated for life with thyroid hormone replacement therapy, such as drugs containing levothyroxine sodium.

Fortunately, dogs can live normal lives as long as they receive treatment.

3. Eye problems

Common eye problems among Huskies are canine cataracts and corneal dystrophy. A cataract is often an inherited disease wherein the cornea of the eye gets cloudy.

It is often a hereditary disease but it can also be caused by trauma to the eye, diabetes, or nutritional imbalance.

Corneal dystrophy is an inherited condition that also causes opaqueness in the cornea. The condition causes light sensitivity and excessive blinking. It is treated with antibiotic eye medications or in some cases surgery.

4. Follicular Dysplasia

A genetic condition wherein there is an abnormality in the hair follicles causing abnormal hair growth and hair loss. The dog may also have dry and scaly skin which can lead to itchiness and excessive scratching.

Unfortunately, there is no cure for this disease but it can be managed with the use of certain doggy shampoos that can alleviate the dryness of the skin.

5. Zinc Deficiency

Zinc deficiency is either caused by malabsorption or improper digestion of the mineral. Maldigestion occurs when the mineral cannot be broken down in the intestines, while malabsorption happens when it doesn’t get passed into the blood.

Symptoms include stunted growth, diarrhea, dried footpads, and hair loss. A veterinarian may prescribe  zinc supplements to treat the condition.

Miniature Husky lifespan

Mini Husky lifespan is similar to the standard Siberian Husky of 12 to 15 years. In order for a Mini Huskie breed to have a long and healthy life, they should be kept active, given the right nutrition, and checked by the veterinarian regularly.

Regular exercise helps to boost their energy, reduce stress, and keep their weight at an optimum level, while regular visits to the vet will help you monitor their health for any sudden changes.

A dog’s need also changes as they age, so it is important to be attentive to any shift in their behaviors. Just like us, their eyesight and hearing may not be as sharp as when they were young, and certain modifications around your house may be needed.

Can you get a Miniature Husky?

Yes, you can get a Mini Siberian Husky breed but finding them is not as easy compared to if you will get a regular Siberian Husky. So, if you are drawn to care for a small dog with a wolf-like appearance yet gentle and friendly like a Miniature Husky, be patient with the process because getting this dog may take a while.

More so because there is a high demand for a Mini Siberian Husky breed.

The great news though is that a Miniature Siberian Husky normally produces a large litter of about 10 to 11 puppies.

Having said that, be sure to deal with responsible breeders. If not, you might end up caring for a sickly Mini Siberian Husky, or worse, the little puppy that you got from an unscrupulous breeder turned out to be another dog breed that only looked like a Mini Husky.

How do you know if a breeder can be trusted or not? Continue reading because we will provide you with tips on how you will know if you are talking to an ethical breeder of Mini Husky.

Mini Husky breeders

Be cautious when looking for Miniature Siberian Husky breeders near me. As much as we do not want to scare you, you have to understand that dog breeding is a lucrative business.

There are a lot of people out there who present themselves as responsible breeders even if they are simply puppy mill breeders, meaning, they are only doing this for the profit and they have utter disregard for animal welfare.

So, how can you find a trusted Miniature Husky breeders near me? Here are our tips on what to look for in Miniature Husky puppy breeders:

How much is that doggie in the window?

You should not take it by heart that famous song by Patti Page in 1953 because a lot of dogs that you see in the windows of pet stores could be products of puppy mills which are known for the cruel treatment of dogs.

If you do, you might end up disappointed because you invested money, time, and emotion only to discover later on that the puppy is plagued with congenital diseases.

Instead, you want a Miniature Siberian Husky breeder to have a website where you can read information about the breeder such as affiliations and the number of years in the business.

Allows buyers to look around

The power of technology allows for photos to be altered and photoshopped. Hence, nothing beats seeing the puppies with your own eyes.

Can’t visit the kennel?

Responsible breeders, in a lot of cases, have cameras installed so interested buyers can see the puppies as well as the parents virtually.

No questions asked

If breeders are hesitant to answer your questions about the breed, the parents, and other concerns, you should mark them as a red flag. Reputable breeders are more than willing to give you valuable information about the breed, more so since a Mini Husky is a fairly new breed so more questions are expected.

The contract

For the buyer’s protection, a written contract is necessary. Issues such as a guarantee against congenital diseases, if in case, the puppy got sick within a period of time due to gene-related problems, the contract should also stipulate that hospital bills that will be shouldered by the breeder.

Those are our tips on how you can protect yourself from getting scammed if looking for a Miniature Siberian Husky breeder.

The other way where you can get a Mini Husky is by attending performance events which is a great place to talk to dog owners and dog handlers. You can also ask for referrals from veterinarians and local training clubs in your neck of the woods.

Miniature Siberian Husky breeders in PA

Mini Husky breeders near me in Pennsylvania could be found at Rae’s Siberian Huskies (raessiberianhuskies.weebly.com). Hopefully, the breeder has Miniature Huskies for sale.

Mini Husky puppies

Choosing your Mini Husky puppy from a litter of Mini Siberian Husky puppies is an important task. That Miniature Husky puppy is going to be a family member so you want to make sure that you are choosing a healthy and emotionally stable puppy Mini Husky, especially if you live with children.

So, here are the basics when it comes to puppy selection.

Gender

Do you prefer a male or a female puppy? Basically, both genders have the same friendly and outgoing temperament but some Miniature Husky puppies owners say that the girls are more reserved and are more focused when it comes to training.

The main difference lies in the heat cycle. So, if you choose a female puppy, you have to prepare twice a year for the mess in your home.

For this reason, we suggest that you train your female pup to get used to wearing doggie diapers for her heat cycle as early as possible.

Color

Miniature Husky puppies come in an array of colors but it does not affect the behaviors of the Miniature Huskies puppies.

Health

Observe the way the Mini Husky pups move and interact with their littermates. You want a pup that moves well and has no signs of limping or any type of mobility issues. You should also inspect the eyes and ears of the Miniature Husky puppies. Plus, you do not want a puppy that does not excitedly welcome unknown faces because this can be an indication of a nervous and anxious Mini Husky puppy.

Once you have chosen your puppy from a litter of Miniature Siberian Husky puppies and are ready to bring home your fur baby, make sure to puppy-proof your home.

Also, get the basic things that your new canine friends need such as the ones we have listed below.

  • Get a chew proof dog bed so your puppy Mini Husky can get a good rest.
  • Purchase feeding and drinking bowls. It’s up to you if you prefer to buy a slow feeder or elevated food bowls for your puppy.
  • Crate training is a choice, so if you want to crate-train, select the one that is large enough so as not to hinder the movements of your fur baby.
  • Dog or chew toys are essential because they alleviate the pain associated with teething.
  • Since Miniature Husky puppies are active creatures, you have to get them a harness and a rope dog leash so they can explore the outdoors with you.
  • Remember when we said earlier how Mini Huskies tend to escape their homes to go out and have some fun? To prevent that from happening, you can use retractable gates or if you have the budget, you may opt for an invisible dog fence.

Miniature Husky price

Have you fallen in love with a Mini Husky and you are so excited to bring home this small teddy bear? You may now be asking if the Mini Husky prices are affordable or if the Mini Huskies price can only be afforded by the wealthy.

Well, the awesome news is that the Mini Husky price is not as expensive as say a Blue French Bulldog.

On average, the Miniature Huskies price is between $1,250 and $1,600. In some cases, the price could be higher depending on the lineage of the puppy. If the parents are dog show competition champions, the price of a Mini Husky could escalate to $2,500.

But if you compare the price of a Standard Siberian Husky to that of a Miniature Siberian Husky, the Miniature Siberian Husky price is higher.

The Mini Siberian Husky price is higher because this smaller version of a Siberian Husky is considered rare. Thus, do not be surprised if you do not find a Mini Husky in the market all the time.

To give you an idea of the Miniature Husky price near me, we have created a table that shows you the price of a Mini Husky per city. We want to stress though that the figures below are just approximations and you may encounter some breeders who have a higher Miniature Husky price range.

There are many varied reasons why the Mini Husky breed price varies.

First is the breeder’s reputation. Those breeders who have established good names in the dog breeding industry naturally command a higher Mini Husky breed price.

The second reason why Mini Husky dog price varies is the coat color. The rare colors of a Mini Husky are agouti, black, white, and chocolate and those Mini Huskies wearing any of these rare coat colors are more expensive.

The third factor that affects the Miniature Husky puppies price is the location of the breeder. Same as the other dog breeds, the breeders coming from different cities may have varying prices.

Then, the gender of the Mini Husky also affects the pricing, with males coming out cheaper than females. This is especially true if you ask for breeding rights.

Take a look at the tables below to give you an idea as to how much is a Mini Husky in your neighborhood.

Location Puppy Prices for Miniature Huskies
Mini Husky price US $1,000 – $2,500
Miniature Husky price UK$1,300 – $2,000
Miniature Husky price Australia$1,500 – $2,800
DOGLEASHPRO.COM

Miniature Husky breed price for adult dogs is usually lower. This does not mean though that these adult dogs are hard to live with or are not in their pink of health.

The main reason why the adult Teacup Mini Husky price is lower than puppies is because the demand for the adults is lower.

Below is a table indicating the Mini Husky price range for adult dogs. Again, these are not exact figures, more so that Mini Huskies are pretty much hard to find, especially if you’re looking for adult dogs.

LocationAdult Teacup Miniature Husky Price
Mini Husky price US$800 – $2,100
Miniature Husky price UK$1,000 – $1,500
Miniature Husky price Australia $1,000 – $2,000
DOGLEASHPRO.COM

Next to purchasing a cute Miniature Husky, you now have to consider the yearly cost of owning a Mini Husky for the next 10 years or so. The Mini Husky may be a small dog but he falls under the active dog breed category, and this translates to higher food expenses.

The other expenses you have to factor in are veterinary expenses, grooming, dog supplements, among others. On average, we are looking at a yearly cost of about $1,020 or higher.

Based on the approximate annual expenses chart below, you can more or less gauge if you have the financial means to care for a Mini Siberian Husky.

If you are having second thoughts, we think it is best to look for another dog breed that requires fewer expenses. In this way, giving up dogs for adoption will be minimized.

Mini Husky Needs Average Cost
Food and doggie treats$450 and upwards
Supplements$100 and upwards
Annual vaccinations $170
Wellness exams $50
Professional dog grooming services (optional) $250
Total $1,020 and upwards

Where can I buy a Mini Husky?

While it is true that a Miniature Siberian Husky is not easy to find compared with standard-sized Huskies, you can find a Miniature Siberian Husky buy from different places but be very willing to wait.

It is best to buy Mini Husky from a reputable breeder so you will not be scammed. There are unscrupulous breeders out there who would lure you to buy Mini Siberian Husky from them at a lower price.

However, you may be scammed because for all you know, those Huskies are not actually Mini Huskies but the standard-sized Huskies. So, always be on the safe side if you want to buy Miniature Husky.

Next to seeking out responsible breeders, you may also attend dog shows of Siberian Huskies. The handlers and even the groomers can introduce you to breeders where you can buy Miniature Siberian Husky. Veterinarians are also the ones who may know of someone whom you can buy Mini Husky puppy.

Don’t forget to also check out your local adoption and rescue centers. The smaller versions of Huskies may not be available for now, this is why it requires patience and dedication to find that elusive Mini Husky.

Sometimes, the best and the cheapest way to own a dog including a Mini Husky is to search for a Mini Husky rescue near me. For some of you who are confused between a rescue and an adoption center, allow us to explain it very briefly.

When you hear the term Mini Siberian Husky rescue, this means finding a Miniature Husky in a breed-specific center which is a dog rescue center as opposed to an adoption shelter that accepts all kinds of dog breeds.

So, if you especially prefer to own a Mini Husky, then, you can proceed to a Miniature Siberian Husky rescue center near you.

In the case of a Mini Husky, remember when we said that this dog breed is fairly new and is still considered rare, so what we will do is to provide you with links to Siberian Husky rescue centers and hopefully, they have available Mini Huskies for sale.

This is why dog lovers are encouraged to support an unloved dog either by adoption or through fostering. So, if you want to own a Mini Husky but budget is your problem, you can opt to choose Mini Husky adoption.

Miniature Siberian Husky adoption has many benefits.

First is that adopting a Mini Husky is less expensive.

Second you will give an abandoned dog a second chance to be loved and be part of a family.

Mini Husky looking dog

Some people might be interested in getting a dog that looks like a Mini Husky that doesn’t shed as much or doesn’t require a high amount of exercise like the Husky.

There are a number of small Husky looking dog that came from the same Arctic region that fit this bill. In fact, when placed side by side, a lot of people might mistake them for small Husky breeds.

A few examples of these dogs that look like Mini Huskies are the Alaskan Klee Kai, Alaskan Malamute, Finnish Spitz, Japanese Spitz, American Eskimo Dog, and Icelandic Sheepdog.

All of these Mini Husky like dog belong to the Spitz family with the characteristic wolf-like appearance, pointy ears, almond-shaped eyes, and thick double coats.

These Miniature Husky looking dog are also primarily used as herders and are purebreds just like the Siberian Husky, although the Mini Husky is not recognized as a separate breed by the AKC and other dog associations.

While some may choose these dogs over the Mini Husky, a lot of them only differ slightly from the Mini Husky in terms of temperament, adaptability, sensitivity, or whether or not they are suitable for novice dog owners.

Mini Alaskan Klee Kai

The Miniature Alaskan Klee Kai is the closest to resembling a Mini Husky. The Mini Klee Kai is a miniature version of the Alaskan Husky, but unlike the Mini Husky, is recognized by the AKC as a distinct dog breed.

Klee Kai is an Inuit term meaning “little dog.” They were originated by Linda Spurlin as a companion dog in the 1970s from crossing Alaskan Husky with some Siberian Husky, American Eskimo Dog, and Schipperkes.

Alaskan Klee Kai comes in three sizes – standard, toy, and miniature, and it is possible to get three sizes in just one litter.

The Miniature Klee Kai ranges in height from 13 to 15 inches upon maturity and weighs 10 to 15 pounds.

Miniature Klee Kai comes in red and white, black and white, gray and white, and white with facial masks and body markings that are symmetrically contrasting.

Mini Alaskan Malamute

The Miniature Alaskan Malamute does not really exist. Alaskan Malamutes are large dogs that have powerful and heavy-boned body frames with broad heads, deep chests, and bulky muzzles.

It resembles the Siberian Husky but is much taller at 23 to 25 inches and weighs between 75 to 85 pounds. Coat color can be uneven markings of gray, sable, or black in combination with white.

If there ever was a miniature Alaskan Malamute, it would have been bred by crossing the runts of the litter.

But, at the present time, there have been no breeders that have deliberately bred an Alaskan Malamute to miniature size to merit a separate breed.

The closest dog breed that can be referred to as a mini Alaskan Malamute is the Alaskan Klee Kai.

Mini Husky Mix

With the popularity of the Siberian Husky growing in recent years, it is no accident that breeders have come up with various mixes of the breed.

Mini Huskies have been crossed with other popular breeds with the goal of creating a companion Mini Husky cross breed dog suitable for any living conditions that combines the best qualities of both parent dogs.

Miniature Husky cross breeds inherit physical and temperamental traits from each parent. Because of this, it is hard to predict how Miniature Husky Mix puppies will look.

There are several reasons why breeders would want to create a Mini Husky Mix breed. Some would want to have a small Husky Mix that sheds less, and some love the idea of having a blue-eyed Husky small dog Mix.

Another reason is the growing demand for smaller and smaller dog breeds that you can easily carry around everywhere.

Mini Husky Mixes are typically tinier versions of the Siberian Husky. Small Husky breed Mix is much easier to maintain and handle.

Crossing a Mini Husky with a smaller dog breed will produce even smaller Mini Husky Mix puppies, like the Teacup Pomsky, or Pomeranian Husky Mini Mix.

Other examples of Miniature Husky cross are the Husky Pug Mix or the Hug, the Dachshund Husky Mix, the Corgi Mini Siberian Husky Mix, and the Poodle Husky Mix or Huskydoodle.

We will discuss some of these Miniature Husky Mix in detail below.

What is a Mini Husky Mixed with?

The Husky, including the Mini Husky, has been mixed with a myriad of other popular purebred dogs.
