These pups can be quite unpredictable as they have a random combination of traits from both parent breeds. You can get anything from F1 tricolor Bernedoodle to F1 Phantom Bernedoodle.

F1B Bernedoodle

F1B Bernedoodles are the result of breeding an F1 Bernedoodle back to a purebred Poodle. This is usually done to make the next generation more hypoallergenic. We get a 75% Poodle and 25% Bernese mix by doing this. 

F1 vs F1B Bernedoodle 

You might be wondering, “what is the difference between F1 and F1b Bernedoodles?”

The main difference between F1 and F1B Bernedoodles is that F1 is the initial generation of the Bernedoodle, which is a 50/50 mix while the F1B Bernedoodle generation is a 75/25 cross.

The coat types of F1 can be either wavy, curly, or straight, whereas F1B coat types are usually curlier. 

As for shedding and hypoallergenic properties, F1 Bernedoodle pups are known to shed very little. F1B pups, on the other hand, shed even less since they have a higher percentage of Poodle in them. This generation is also more hypoallergenic.

F1 vs F1B mini Bernedoodle

A mini Bernedoodle is what we get when we cross a Bernese Mountain Dog with a Miniature Poodle. When we backcross this hybrid with a miniature Poodle, we get the F1b mini Bernedoodle.

Reverse F1B Bernedoodle 

Contrary to a regular F1b Bernedoodle, a reverse standard F1b Bernedoodle is 75% Bernese Mountain Dog and 25% Poodle. These F1b reverse Bernedoodle shed a considerable amount; hence they’re not recommended for people with allergies.

F1BB Bernedoodle

F1BB Bernedoodle is the re-backcrossing of an F1b Bernedoodle with a miniature Poodle, resulting in 87.5% Poodle and 12.5% Bernese Mountain Dog. The repeated backcrossing helps further reduce the F1BB mini Bernedoodle size.

F2 Bernedoodle 

F2 Bernedoodles are the result of crossing two F1 Bernedoodles. Just like the first generation, there is no guarantee that Bernedoodle F2 will be perfectly hypoallergenic as they may inherit the genes for shedding from either parent.

F1B vs F2 Bernedoodle

It all depends on what you’re looking for in your Bernedoodle. If you want a more hypoallergenic pooch that doesn’t shed much, go for an F1B Bernedoodle. However, if you wish for a less expensive Bernedoodle and don’t mind a little shedding, go for an F2 Bernedoodle.

F2B Bernedoodle

F2B Bernedoodles are 62.5 to 75% Poodle. In a litter of F2B mini Bernedoodles, you can expect to find a wider variety of coat colors and patterns.

F2BB Bernedoodles are the result of crossing an F2b Bernedoodle with a 100% Poodle, resulting in 81.25% Poodle and 18.75% Bernese Mountain Dog.

For my two dogs, I use the Embark dog DNA test. This was recommended to me and it provides both breed ID and health detection.

When the results came back, I was pleasantly surprised at the breed ID portion. The health detection results were also helpful as it helped me understand what health issues my two furry pups are most prone to and what I can do to better take care of them.

Going back to F1B Bernedoodles, here is a list of common health problems they may have:

1. Hip dysplasia

Hip dysplasia is a genetic condition can cause lameness and pain in the hips. 

2. Von Willebrand’s disease

This is a condition that affects the blood’s ability to clot. It can be severe and even life-threatening.

3. Eye disorders

Eye disorders like progressive retinal atrophy (PRA) and cataracts are relatively common in Bernedoodles.

4. Patellar luxation

This is a condition that causes the kneecap to dislocate. Fortunately, it’s not always painful.

5. Bloat

This is a condition in which the stomach gets full of gas and twists up. It’s excruciating and can be life-threatening. 

6. Epilepsy

This is a neurological condition that causes seizures. It’s relatively common in Bernedoodles, so it’s something to be aware of. 

7. Elbow dysplasia

This is a condition that causes the elbow joint to develop abnormally. It can be very painful and may require surgery to correct.

8. Adenitis

This is an inflammation of the lymph nodes. It’s not usually painful, but it can be uncomfortable for your pup. 

9. Cancer

Unfortunately, cancer is relatively common in Bernedoodles. The best way to deal with it is to catch it early and get treatment as soon as possible.
